During the 2006 big game season, we saw a major increase in the Mule deer herds. We are now seeing the results of having several mild winters in a row - and the Mule deer population is on the rise. We have a number of excellent Mule deer leases and if you draw a tag you will have the opportunity to shoot a nice buck.  If you are unsuccessful in drawing a deer license, we will have a limited number available, which we obtain through the Landowner Preference system. 2007 looks to be a great year for Mule deer in our area, so remember to get your deer license applications in before the April 3, 2007 deadline. It has been our observation that the first combined season and the last combined season are the best hunts for deer.

Texas Hill Country Deer Hunt

December of 2002, I found myself heading out to the hill country of Texas to find a couple of nice bucks for some friends of mine. Dave Fields, Buddy Polk and George Dixon. The Texas Hill Country deer is a subspecies of the whitetail which everyone in the United States knows. They are much like the elusive Coues deer in Arizona. However, in and around Kerrville, Texas where I leased a ranch from a friend of mine, Steve Forest, there are quite a few deer. In Texas you are allowed to bait deer and after a couple of days of baiting we had a lot of deer coming to feed. These mature bucks only weigh about 100 pounds or less and are a neat animal to hunt. I leased a ranch from a friend of mine, Steve Forest and 99% of deer hunting in Texas is in a blind. After a couple of days of hunting we were able to shoot a couple of fine bucks. Texas has a generous bag limit, 2 bucks, 2 does and a turkey on each license. In 2003, we will be hosting a few of these hunts for the Texas Hill Country Deer. Each hunter is 99% sure to take a nice 8 or 10 point deer home. Your trophy room isn't complete until you have this special subspecies of whitetail.

Drop Camps

The most economical way to hunt Colorado is from a drop camp. We have two options available for self guided hunters. For $2,000 per hunter, you will stay in a cabin, hunt private land leases, eat home cooked meals and we will pack out your game, if needed. Horse & Trailer Rentals available too:  $90/day or $350/week.

Book your hunt today. We will fill up for the season quickly.
